At CaSPA's May Board Meeting we will be meeting with AITSL CEO Lisa Rodgers. One topic for discussion will be support for Leaders in Schools and follow up to the recent launch of new guidelines:
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) recently launched new guidelines on preparing educators for effective school leadership.
The Leading for impact: Australian guidelines for school leadership development will make it easier for systems and current school leaders to find and develop future leaders, and ensure pathways to leadership are clear and inclusive."It's essential that principals are well prepared for the role; they look after the well-being, progress and achievement of all students in Australian schools," AITSL CEO Lisa Rodgers said.
"We know that great teaching has the biggest impact on the learning lives of students, after that it's the school principal and their leadership teams."AITSL's evidence-informed recommendations describe what teachers need in order to develop their leadership skills, and the specific preparation of those who aspire to become a principal.
The guidelines also support the professional growth of current principals in line with the Australian Charter for the Professional Learning of Teachers and School Leaders and the Australian Teacher, Performance and Development Framework.
