The presentation by Fr Frank Brennan [pictured above meeting the protestors outside the Conference venue] was a study in reflection, balance and good humour. While the keynote address by Kristina Keneally was high energy and tinged with elements of frustration, Frank Brennan provided quite a contrast in style while ultimately inviting almost an identical response from the delegates.
Drawing on years of training in the law and theology, Fr Frank provided a clear and measured assessment of a range of issues that confront the Church. He avoided simplistic responses and instead invited careful thought and analysis e.g. regarding the current court case involving Cardinal Pell where Frank cautioned those who were prejudging the outcome of this highly publicised case.
As an advocate for the disadvantaged for much of his life, Fr Frank knows that often real change comes about as a result of effort more akin to a "marathon" than a "sprint". This did not dissuade him from encouraging the delegates to seek to bring about much needed change to the Church in Australia.
