CaSPA School Families lose homes in Victorian Bushfires

Darren Egberts, Principal of Mercy College, Camperdown has asked that the following be distributed to his colleague Catholic Principals:

No doubt all have seen the horrific images of fires affecting the Corangamite Shire last night; it was a very long and traumatic night for my family in Camperdown.  But our experience was insignificant relative to that of many in our communities who have lost houses, farm buildings, livestock and the memories of a lifetime.

At this stage, at least six members of our MRC community have lost their houses (including two staff) with a number of others seriously affected.

We give merciful thanks that no casualties have occurred; a fact reinforced to me by the same families who lost everything.

I ask that the thoughts and prayers of your school communities are with us and all those in the South West affected by these fires.  We are certainly not alone in experiencing the devastation of bushfires.

I will be in contact in the coming days if more practical assistance is needed.

God bless,

Darren Egberts
