ACTVCA - a great example of how your network can meet at CaSPA National Gatherings

Patrick O'Reilly, principal of Southern Cross College, NSW spoke to delegates during the CaSPA Forum about the benefits of forming a sub group within CaSPA for the mutual support and benefit of the schools involved.

In this case it is CaSPA schools offering Vocational Education and Patrick provided the following background:

The ACTVCA grew out of a previous network of Australian Technical Colleges (ATCs), which emerged in 2005/2006. As ATC funding concluded in 2009, 3 ATCs either continued as or came into Catholic system operation:

  • Newman Senior Technical College, Port Macquarie (the former) and
  • St Patrick's and Marcellin Technical College(s), Adelaide (the latter).

There was a shared desire on the part of these 3 Colleges, alongside that of the emerging large and/or specialist Catholic Trade Training Centres, to meet regularly, share wisdom and experiences, and advocate for the VET in the Catholic schools sector.

The current membership of the Association includes the 3 Colleges list above, as well
as:

  • St Columban's College, Caboolture

  • Catholic Regional College, Sydenham
  • Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College (SCCVC), Burwood.
