A chance for your staff to access PD on how the Parliament of Australia functions

Above: Teachers getting into role during a professional learning session at Parliament House.

At the Parliamentary Education Office [PEO] we know not all teachers have the time (or the inclination) to become experts in the Australian Parliament. We, however, are passionate about Australian democracy and parliamentary education. We have spent years developing imaginative and accessible ways of addressing the Australian Civics and Citizenship Curriculum, which we want to share with teachers across Australia.

In 2019 the PEO will be offering an expanded range of professional learning programs:

  • at Parliament House in Canberra
  • via video conferencing
  • at your school, university or other venue in your community.
Our teacher professional learning programs make learning and teaching about Parliament fun and engaging. At the end of each program, teachers and pre-service teachers:
  • understand the role of the Australian Parliament and the law-making process
  • are comfortable with experiential learning techniques which bring Parliament to life in their classroom
  • have explored how these strategies can be adapted to other areas of the curriculum
  • have a range of options for encouraging students to become active citizens
  • have shared experiences with their peers and built a professional network.

Our teacher professional development programs are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Stay tuned in 2019 for details on how you can participate in our professional learning opportunities at Parliament House, via video conferencing or in locations around Australia.
